Our fifth subject was Norman!

Cats vs Cancer: So Norman, you were the runt of your litter and had to be hand reared by your breeder. Was that scary?

Norman: I was very sick when I was born. My body was limp and I didn’t have much strength but my breeder really looked after me. He was a doctor and he fed me by hand. He showed me so much love and care. It was scary and I thought I might die but I tried to be strong because I know I have an important job to do. There was a nice lady, too. I think they were sad when we said goodbye.

CvC: We’re told you were frightened of your own shadow at one point. How did you overcome your fears?

Norman: I do get a little twitchy. I think I was put on earth to teach people how to be calm around cats. I am like two cats. There’s a scaredy side but there’s a super hero side to. I like both. It’s OK if I can sniff your finger first – then I know there’s nothing to worry about. I love being petted and I have a loud purr. My purr is my way of bringing love into the world.

CvC: One of our founders is the youngest of 5 siblings so he knows what it’s like to have to battle it out for the best snacks in the house. Do you ever have to compete with the rest of the Mag 7 for treats? What’s the secret to winning?

Norman: It’s all in the timing – you’ve got to know when to make your move. The other cats are all bigger than me except Pixie but she’s a girl. I love Pixie but she hates me. I try to make her happy but I think I just annoy her. I’m not too bothered about treats. My favourite thing is bedtime when I get my mom to myself. She cuddles me and kisses my cheeks. She calls me sweet cheeks – that’s her special name for me – and it makes me happy.

CvC: Do any of them pick on you? Or take extra special care of you? Do you have an extra special relationship with any of them?

Norman: The other boys don’t really pick on me. Except Rocky who picks on everyone. He’s so grouchy but he has a lot on his mind. Pixie picks on me. I get frustrated because she’s so pretty and I just want to be friends but she takes it the wrong way. She’s got a really quick punch! Sometimes we roll around on the floor together. She thinks we’re fighting but I like to pretend we’re having fun. She hates it when I stare at her. I stare at her a lot. Ugs is kind to me. Ugs is kind to everyone. We both like to sniff things. Ugs sniffs my butt which I find a bit strange but he’s not doing any harm.

CvC: Is if difficult being the youngest of the Mag 7? Or do your owners ever spoil you? If so, do you think your siblings get jealous?

Norman: They get jealous when I have my special time with mom; especially Prince who likes to spread out his huge body to take up as much room as he can so I don’t get a look-in. But I’m smart; I’ll wait until there’s no-one around my mom then jump onto the sofa. I love it when she strokes my head.

CvC: Any final tips for other runts of the litter out there on how they can deal with being the little guy?

Norman: You can have a weak body but a strong heart and spirit. Be yourself and let your personality shine through!

CvC: Fill in the blank. Of all the mag 7 I’m the most ________.

Norman:  In love with Pixie!
